Use Your EBT Card at Participating Farmers Markets
Everyone is welcome to shop or just look around at farmers markets in the Northland. A farmers market is where farmers can sell their products or produce to customers directly. It’s a great place to find healthy, local, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Many also sell meats, preserves, syrup, cheeses, baked goods, plants and more. Shopping at a farmers market also supports your local economy by buying directly from your neighboring farmers and keeping local dollars local.
If you’ve never been to a farmers market, you should visit one! Besides the great food, you can learn a lot just talking with the farmers about how they grow or prepare their food. Some will share recipes on how to use their produce. It’s not like shopping at a grocery store at all. Here are some tips to make your experience a good one.
If you’re a SNAP-EBT user, many markets are now able to process EBT cards. In fact, they give you a great deal called “Market Bucks.” Just by using your EBT card, Market Bucks will match the amount of SNAP/EBT you spend dollar for dollar up to $10! So if you buy $6 worth of fresh berries, you’ll get another $6 to spend. If you spend $12, you’ll get $10.
All you need is your EBT card and a participating farmers market.
