Unique Local Champions Promote Healthy Eating!
When Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) coordinators work in schools or cities or other settings, they often have someone they call “a champion.” These are the key people who are great to work with because they are excited to help make healthy choices easy choices for everyone. They are the ones who say “Yes! Let’s have walking meetings at work,” or “No, let’s not have sugar sweetened drinks in our vending machines.” And sometimes you have other kinds of champions.
Danielle Schermerhorn and her 3-year old daughter, Jenika, are two healthy eating champions in International Falls, a SHIP community. Together they’ve created . . . a monster. Snackster Sam is the face of healthy snacking in their new book, Snackster Sam’s Big Adventure! He’s on a mission to find the best snacks! And he will find them, along with you, if you read the book! You can learn more about Snackster Sam at SnacksterSam.com. While you’re at it, say thank you to the human champions for understanding the importance of healthy eating and making the message accessible for our youngest readers and eaters.
