Grand Rapids, a city in Itasca County, is a designated Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) community. Their community program is guided by Get Fit Itasca, a community health collaborative whose mission is, “To engage all people in the Itasca Area to make healthy choices and participate in activities that improve their quality of life.
They currently have 17 businesses participating in Work Site Wellness!
Grand Rapids strives to meet the needs for multiple modes of transportation through creating connections within their existing non-motorized trail system and creating safe on road routes to desired destinations including schools, shops, parks, and more. ISD 318, Grand Rapids area schools have created Safe Routes to School plans and are working collaboratively towards implementation. ISD 318 has a district wellness committee that meets monthly.
In June 2017 Get Fit Itasca held an Open Streets event to help community members re-think how to use their streets.
And now it’s easier to use bicycles for transportation through their Community Bike Share program.
